Attention Seekers

[RHYME SCHEME THROUGHOUT ENTIRE CANTO]

Dante recovers from his swoon and finds himself in the FOURTH CIRCLE. He looks around and discovers the flames that surround him. He spots hideous creatures burning in flames. They seem to be yelling, pleading for help but he could hear nothing. These are the ATTENTION-SEEKERS. In life they did whatever possible to seek the attention of others, whether it was good or bad attention. Here they lie through all eternity in flames, burning and yelling for attention but mute. And as they are silently screaming, there are flesh eating bugs eating at their feet as they in life did everything possible so that people would kiss their feet.

As I awoke from my short time of darkness
I felt upon me a sudden flash of heat.
I felt unsettle but saw my master, his greatness.

He led me into the level but said to be discrete
these creatures before me were frightful to my eyes.
They were in flames from head to feet

and seem to be screaming for help but the cries
were awfully desperate but silent.
Underneath them were enormous flesh-eating flies.

These souls in eternal pain loved judgment,
by the people who cared the least
and made sure to be the center of every moment.

As I looked to my right, I saw a beautiful beast,
beautiful yet it was the one being punished the most.
The face seem familiar to me, a resident of the east,

whom I remember actively being in the news post.
I walked towards her: “O you who burn in flames and
rot in silence, are you Kim Kardashian in a form of a ghost?’

And she said to me: “Yes, it was me and I demand
that you take a picture of me for others to see
my pain and give it to a news reporter in your land.”

I was taken back. She was suffering in such a high degree
of pain and that was all she could think about.
Recovering from the shock, I saw my guide by a tree.

He said to me: “She is hopeless and will soon be wiped out.
Are you ready to continue moving along?”
I was tempted to say no because I wanted to take a timeout.

However, i knew the journey was still long.
So i said yes to my guide,
even though it felt wrong.

  1. EC = 1.5 (some of it is REALLY slant.. but overall nice job following terza rima throughout).

I absolutely love the silent scream and feet-eating bugs as part of the contrapasso! Great voice; good transition (Dante is always fainting); nice allusion to KK - and her demand for a photo - even after her death. Some minor grammatical errors.

    26.5/25
